The summer season started at Reay on Saturday with the traditional Captain versus Vice Captain match.

An excellent turnout saw 50 players competing on behalf of captain Carol Paterson and vice-captain Steve Efemey. After some excellent golf from both sides, the match ended in an honourable draw with the teams on 6.5 points.

In the first men’s competitions of the summer, Andy Bain maintained his excellent recent form to win the Ward Trophy. Birdies at the third, 10th and 18th helped him to a winning tally of 37 Stableford points.

Stuart Greig was edged into second place on countback after he also finished on 37, but he did have the consolation of carding a brace of birdies at the fifth and 15th holes.

A steady round of 87 saw David Craig finish third on 35.

In the High Handicap Trophy, Jack Johnstone put in a fine performance to win on a score of 37 points.

A trio of players, Sandy Chisholm, Sean Munro and Dave Gisbey, finished on 28 points in second place. A fine birdie at the 13th helped Munro to his score.

Willie Steven and Colin Struthers were next best after both finished on 39.

In the overall final standings Alex Anderson won the Dave Lyall Trophy for the best six-round aggregate Stableford score of 225. Willie Williamson finished second on 223, with Malcolm Thomson and Kenny Farmer Snr next best after both finished on 219.

The Scorrie Trophy for the best eclectic score was won by Stuart Greig with a superb 57. Alex Anderson had to settle for second place on 58, with Dave Gisbey and Donald Bain next best after both finished on 63.

This Saturday sees the club hosting the RJ McLeod Open Scramble for teams of three, while on Sunday the men will be competing in the George Couper Challenge.
