Parnell prevails in Reay men’s Winter Eclectic
The Reay men’s Winter Eclectic competition reached an exciting climax on Saturday with the sixth and final round played in fine conditions.
In the final analysis it was serial eclectic winner Lee Parnell who prevailed, with a birdie at the first hole tipping the balance in his favour. This crucially improved Parnell’s eclectic score by a single shot, giving him a tally of 59, one better than long-time pacesetters Andy Bain and Steve Efemey who finished on 60.
A late charge up the standings saw Alex Anderson also finish on an eclectic score of 60.
Best score on the day was courtesy of Dave Gisbey after a fine round of nett 66. Leslie Malcolm finished second with a steady round of 80 for nett 67, while a birdie at the sixth helped Donald Bain to third place on nett 69.
Pauline Craig played some excellent golf to win the women’s Ball Sweep competition with a round of 90 for nett 70. Pam Bain and Patsy Mackay were next best on nett 71, with Jacqui Greig taking fourth place a couple of shots further back on nett 73.
An exciting round of the North Point Distillery Senior Stableford saw Stuart Greig bag a superb hole in one at the final hole. On a day of good scoring, a birdie at the ninth helped Mikey Ross to victory on 41 points, ahead of Donald Mowat on 40 and David R Craig on 38.

In the latest Winter League Stableford action, Kenny Farmer Jnr won round 12 with an impressive tally of 43 points. Kenny Farmer Snr finished in second place on 38, with Mikey Ross and Jack Johnstone next best after they both finished on 33.
Round 12 was also a high-scoring affair, with a superb round of 70 which included birdies at the sixth and 17th holes helping Mikey Ross to the win on 45 points. A birdie at the 13th helped Jack Johnstone to second on 39, with Donald Bain completing the podium places on 36.
In the overall standings Jack Johnstone leads the way on a six-round aggregate of 226, ahead of Ronald Mathieson on 223 and Jimmy Meiklejohn on 212.
This Saturday will see the women in Winter Stableford action, with the men playing in a sweep. On Sunday the women and men will both be in Winter League Stableford action.
