Wick trio are RJ McLeod Open Scramble winners at Reay
An eventful week at Reay saw the first hole in one of the summer season, courtesy of Pam Garbe in the RJ McLeod Open Scramble.
Her ace came at the par-three fifth hole and helped her team, which also included Su Hawes and Patsy Mackay, to third place overall in the competition with a score of 83 for nett 60.
The winners were the Wick Golf Club trio of Liam Mackay, Lewis Gow and Gavin Majilton, who fired birdies at the second, sixth, eighth, 13th and 16th on their way to a fantastic score of 68 for nett 58.
The Thurso Golf Club trio of Nicky Doherty, Donald Sutherland and Jocky Begg took second place on countback after birdies at the fourth, 12th, 14th, 17th and 18th helped them to a round of 65 for nett 60.
Pauline Craig, Sarah Meiklejohn and Heather Campbell had to settle for fourth place after they also finished on nett 60 following a round of 71, with birdies at the fifth, 13th and 14th helping them along the way.
In the first round of the North Point Distillery Senior Stableford competition, an excellent performance on the par threes was key to Willie Williamson topping the standings on a winning score of 37 points.

A birdie at the 15th helped Fred Groves to second place, a point behind on 36, with no fewer than four players – Sandy Chisholm, Stuart Greig, Alistair Gunn and Hugh Millar – finishing next best on 33 points.
Tough conditions saw players struggle to break par in the George Coupar Challenge, with countback required to declare Gregor Munro the winner after both he and Tom Ross finished on 34 Stableford points. It was Munro who got the nod following a fine round of 71 which included birdies at the sixth, 14th and 17th holes.
Ross also managed a hat-trick of birdies, at the fourth, sixth and 13th, on his way to second.
A good finish saw David Gisbey pip Sandy Chisholm to third after both finished on 33.
This Saturday will see the ladies competing in the MacDonald Landscaping April Medal, while the men will also be competing in their April Medal. On Sunday the men will be vying for glory in the Corfin Bogey.
